Unruh, Linda Penner, was born August 20, 1915 near Aulne, KS, the daughter of Peter C. and Anna Lohrenz Penner. She learned at a young age to assume responsibility and the love of children, being the oldest of seven children. She graduated from Newton High School and the following year worked to earn money to attend Emporia State Teachers College where she received a 3 year teaching certificate. She enjoyed teaching 3 years in a one room country school. May 26, 1940, she married William E. (Bill) Unruh. They made their home in Wichita where Bill was employed. They became active members of a Baptist church where she taught children in Sunday School until her hearing became impaired. The Lord blessed both her and Bill with the love and ability to sing. They served in the church choir faithfully. Linda had made her profession of faith in Jesus her Savior at age 11 and was baptized and received into the fellowship of the Ebenfield Mennonite Brethren church. That was the family church home. Her Uncle G.W. Lohrenz was Pastor. Later the family moved from the farm in Marion County, KS. to one east of Newton and the family started worshiping in the Elbing Missionary church. That is where she began admiring Bill. He was a member of a young men’s quartet who had come from a neighboring church to sing. They had 52 ½ years together. He preceded her in death November 16, 1992. Linda is survived by her brother Wesley Penner and his wife Shirley of Wichita; sister Lillian Penner Miller of Newton, KS. and brother Roy Penner and his wife Margaret of Winfield. She is also survived by her daughter Emily Unruh Haynes and her husband Larry, and son Myron L. Unruh and his wife Barbie of Stanton, TX. In addition there are four grandchildren, being Lori Haynes Yadon and husband Phil of Tulsa, OK., Bradley Haynes and his wife Pamela of Bixby, OK., Kristi Unruh Franklin and her husband Reggie of Stanton, TX. and Tim Unruh of Fort Worth, TX. Additionally there are 4 great-grandchildren, being Rachel and Hannah Franklin of Stanton, TX. and Dylan and Dalton Haynes of Bixby, OK. A memorial service will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Tuesday, June 21, at 1:00 p.m. with viewing immediately preceding the service.
