Leonard was born February 9, 1940 in Chase, Kansas, the son of Kenneth Adelle and Annabelle Viola (Leonard) McNutt.
Leonard served his country in the United States Navy from December 1958 to December 1962, receiving an honorable discharge. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis and had many stories from his time in Service. He served on the following Navy Carriers: USS Essex CVA-9, USS Shangri-la CVA-38, and in Rota, Spain.
On June 13, 1964, he was united in marriage to the love of his life Mary Rose Hanes at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield.
Over the years, Leonard worked as an aviation mechanic, Assistant Store Manager at Godfather’s Pizza, and Theft Prevention Specialist Wal-Mart.
Leonard enjoyed spending time with his many friends at the Park City Senior Center. He enjoyed playing pinochle, pitch, and poker. Leonard always looked forward to the Lunch Bunch. He was also a member of the Independent Order of Foresters and the Church of the Resurrection Men’s Club. He was a faithful blood donor, enjoyed fishing and coaching his kids youth sports when they were young.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gary McNutt.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years Mary Rose, their children Leonard “Len” Douglas McNutt II, Cheryl Schauf (Steven T. Williams), and Julie (Tom) Aarsen. Their loving grandchildren: Jacob McNutt, Ryan Schauf (Sarah Lindner), Katelyn Aarsen, Joshua Aarsen, Zachary McNutt, Mackenzie Aarsen, and Andrew McNutt. Leonard is survived by his sisters, Ruby (Dick) Megerle and Patty Padilla of Peoria, Arizona and Kenny (Cathy) McNutt of Winfield, Kansas.
Memorials may be made in Leonard’s name to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or Kansans for Life.
