LaGene Murphy

LaGene Murphy, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2014. LaGene was born on January 28, 1931 to Thomas H. and Inez C. (Murrell). LaGene, the youngest of five children married Max E. Murphy, Sr. on March 12, 1953 in Newkirk, OK. They have four sons, Douglas S. (Deborah K. Brokaw) Murphy, Harper, Thomas E. Murphy, Wichita, Patrick A. (Peggy Wallsmith) Murphy, and Lloyd Richard (Mary Gondoly) Murphy, all of Winfield. LaGene worked most of her life as a wife, mother, and homemaker raising her husband and four sons. After her sons started walking their own paths in life LaGene enjoyed playing Scrabble, of which she won several tournaments. She also enjoyed playing Bingo-and even won a few times. After moving to Homestead Health Care Center in Wichita, LaGene enjoyed pencil-coloring, a number of which adorned the halls of the center. LaGene has been preceded in death by both of her parents; brother, Cecil Carl Murrell, of Wichita; step-son, Max Jr.; granddaughter, Christiana E. Murphy; and grandson, Tyson P. Murphy. She is survived by her sisters, Lucille Holder, WA, and Loree Ewing, CA; brother, Paul Murrell, TX. LaGEne is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and many other who call her “mom”. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Wichita Park Cemetery, 3434 E. 21st Street N., Wichita.
