Wichita, Kansas – John Stevens age 77, passed away and came face to face with our Lord Jesus Christ February 7, 2021 after a long period of declining health. He was born May 11, 1943 to John S. and Vera (Strang) Stevens in Wichita Kansas. He attended public school in Wichita, graduating from East High. He studied accounting at Wichita State and oil field management at Letourneau University. After the death of his father, he managed his father’s company, Hinks Petroleum and started his own company Energy Oil and Gas. After retiring from the oil business, he owned a small sign company and pursued a talent for graphic design. He believed good government requires active and informed citizens and pursued that belief through the Wichita Pachyderm Club where he served as president for over 10 years and president emeritus until his death. John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Vera and his former wife and mother to his children, Karen (Grage) Stevens. He is survived by his loving wife Debra, his daughter Shalena Hatfield, son Sean, four grandson and one granddaughter. Celebration of Life service will be held at 11am Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel, 11800 W. Hwy 54 Wichita, KS 67209. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Union Rescue Mission of Wichita.
