Ivan ("Rusty") Paul Salyer, Jr., 69, passed away Friday July 12, 2024, in Gridley, KS. He was born May 29, 1955, to Ivan and Joyce Salyer in Las Cruces, New Mexico. His family later moved to Wichita, Kansas, where he attended Kapaun High School and Wichita State University.
Rusty had three sons born to Mary Ellen Wright, and a son and daughter born to Sara Salyer. Rusty was a proud Kansan; however, he spent nearly two decades living in Puyallup, Washington with his younger children. Ivan worked a long career with Travelers Insurance where he eventually retired as a Director. In his free time, he enjoyed coaching his children’s sports teams including baseball, football and wrestling and spending time in nature with his Australian Shepherds.
Rusty had a laugh that would light up the room. He loved his family beyond measure and could never get enough of his rambunctious dogs. Those who had the joy of knowing him knew Rusty to be generous, hardworking, a straight shooter, and quick to lend a hand to a neighbor in need.
Rusty joins his father, Ivan Salyer, brother, Randy Salyer, and son, Kurt Salyer, in heaven.
He is survived by his mother, Joyce Salyer; children, Paul Salyer, Scott Salyer (Sarah), Wesley Salyer (Kimberly), and Angela Ossman (Brendon); grandchildren, Lauren, Kate, Jack, Lillian, and Ellie; his siblings; Richard Salyer (Tammy), Mary Jo Nigg (Mike), Terri Sondheimer (David), Cheryl Herbst, and Tammy Barr (Rob); and many nieces and nephews.
