On August 9, 1967, Gale and Mary Lue were united in marriage in Miami, Oklahoma. They spent many wonderful years together enjoying western dancing and teaching country line dancing in Wichita and the surrounding areas. You could find them dancing the night away many evenings at the Moose Club and the Caprice Ballroom.
Gale worked as a Quality Assurance Specialist (QAS) for FGIS for 33 years before retiring. He worked in the Grain Grading Classes for the States of Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Colorado and Texas.
Gale was a great fisherman and enjoyed countless hours of fishing with his Oklahoma buddies or anyone else who wanted to go. Gale loved to work in his garden and grow a variety of vegetables and many different kinds of flowers and plants. He was known for joking around with his smart whit and awesome comebacks in conversation.
Preceded in death by his parents; son, Howard; sisters, Phyllis Dodge and Sandra Mullin; and nephew, BJ Mullin.
Gale is survived by his loving wife of 57 wonderful years, Mary Lue; brothers, Clinton Calkins of Nebraska and Gary Calkins of Wichita; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, November 9, 2024 at DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Event Venue, 201 S. Hydraulic, Wichita. Burial will take place following the service at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in Gale's name to the Retirement Fund for Sisters of Adorers of Blood Christ Convent, 1165 Southwest Blvd., Wichita, KS 67213 or Scout Troop # 735, 3108 W. Maple, Wichita, KS 67213 for their fishing and camping adventures.
