Dorothy Jean Clark, born Dorothy Jean Ackerson, peacefully passed away on December 25, 2023, at the age of 96 in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on August 15, 1927, in Altamont, Kansas. Dorothy was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend to many.
Dorothy delighted in annually preparing Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings for her extended family. As the years went by, the giant turkey became too heavy for her to lift and she could no longer host such dinners, but her love of being with family remained unwavering. Dorothy especially enjoyed traveling to many countries and national locations with her sister Evelyn; attending lots of local Wichita events with her sister Virginia; and participating in family reunions. In her later years, she found joy in Watching Kansas University and Wichita State University basketball games, as well as cheering for the Kansas City Royals during their baseball games.
The bulk of Dorothy's work experience was with Tweco Products, welding supplies. Through hard work, she rose through the ranks to become the office manager. In January 1993, Dorothy retired from Tweco, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and excellence.
Dorothy’s warm and sweet nature endeared her to those who knew her, even through her last days. She will be deeply missed by her surviving family members, including, Jackie Clark and her husband, Tom Walker; Susan Mielke, and her husband, Mark Mielke. Dorothy is also survived by her brother, Marvin Ackerson, and his wife, Pat; her niece, Donna Jo Chapman; her nephew, Jim Moss, and his wife Karen; her nephew, Doug Chapman, and wife, Janet; her niece, Lori Lynn Brock, and husband Skip; and her niece, Kristi Kay Ackerson.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Hugh Ackerson; mother, Grace E. (White) Ackerson Herron; sisters, Virginia Moss and Evelyn Chapman; and nephew, Marshall Moss.
In accordance with her wishes, Dorothy will be cremated, and her ashes will be interred beside her former husband, Jack G. Clark, at Resthaven Garden of Memory. While there will be no formal services, her daughters encourage friends and family to honor and celebrate her life through personal celebrations, wherever they choose.
Dorothy Jean Clark will be remembered for her love for her family. May she rest in peace.
