Chao Hsiang Chi passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 8, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on June 10, 1922, in Honan province, China, where he was raised in the Jijiagou village of Yanshi county. He was the son of Qing Jian Chi and Dong Shi Chi and the oldest of 7 brothers.
Chao graduated from the Whampoa Military Academy (Central Military Academy). In Qingdao, he met and then married the love of his life, Hwei-Min Sue Chi, in 1948. They moved to Taiwan in 1949, where they started a family, and where he served as a lieutenant colonel for the Republic of China, Taiwan. After retiring from the military, he worked in security for a shipping company before moving to the United States in 1983. He continued to remain active in retirement, engaging with the local Chinese community and taking great pride in helping to raise his grandchildren. He had a passion for gardening and was often outdoors tending to his plants and enjoying nature.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hwei-Min. He is survived by his children: Lydia Chi Loo (Samuel) and Chin Hua Chi (Kuo-Ching), his grandchildren: Peter Loo (Melodie), Colleen Loo-Gross (Derick), Yu-Hsiang Yang, and Chia-Ling Yang, and his 6 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Chao will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, hard-working nature, and everlasting love for his family. His smile and wisdom were gifts to everyone who knew him.
Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life service which will take place at Lakeview Funeral Home on April 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
