Betty June Applewhite

Applewhite, Betty J., 83, went to meet her Lord and Savior on September 13, 2013. Betty was born to Ivan and Marcella Edwards on January 27, 1930 in Pratt, KS. She graduated from East High School Wichita, KS, in May of 1948. She married the love of her life David Applewhite, on June 6, 1948. To this marriage, three children were born, Brenda Joyce Gideon, Steven David Applewhite, and Kent Preston Applewhite. Betty was a homemaker and a part time book keeper. After David retired, they traveled a lot, they both enjoyed the outdoors and almost always had a dog or a cat. Betty loved to volunteer at Glenn Park Christian Church, and did so for many years. She also sang in the church choir. Betty loved Southern Gospel Quartet music and attended many concerts until her health failed, and she could not go anymore. Betty loved people and she will be missed by many. She was preceded in death by her husband David, married 61 years. Parents, Orval and Marcella Verning; sister, Carolee Verning Bupp; and nephew, William “Bill” Long. She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Joyce with husband Mark Gideon; sons, Steven David Applewhite with wife Julie, and Kent Preston Applewhite with wife Terrie; nephew, Michael Schaefer; nine grandchildren, Sean Cummins, Rebecca, Ryan, Elizabeth Porter, and Ashley, Sarah Milner, Rachel Bushman, Melissa English and James; great-grandchildren, Katie, Olivia, and Evan Cummins, Reese Applewhite, Gabriel & Sophia Milner, Noah & Willow English, Adelaide Bushman and Luke and Paige Porter. Funeral service is 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Resthaven Mortuary with Visitation one hour prior to service. Memorials may be sent to Glenn Park Christian Church, 2757 S.
