Betsy Marie (Doane) Kelly, 87, died March 13, 2016. Betsy, born in Newton, Kansas, was the daughter of Violet Retta Brannon Doane and Tracy Doane. She was raised in Emporia, Kansas and was a longtime resident of Valley Center and Wichita, Kansas. She was predeceased by M.G. “Deke” Kelly, her beloved husband of 47 years. She leaves three children: Patrick (Jonna) Kelly; Daniel Kelly (Cheryl Forbes); and Susan Thompson. She is also survived by grandchildren Erin (Jeff) Bartel; Colin (Christine) Kelly; Caitlin Fischer (Grant Thompson); and Caroline (Daniel) Kazakis; as well as great-grandchildren Katherine and James Owen Bartel; Micah, Brynn and Maxwell Kelly; Quinn Thompson; and Eleanor Kazakis. Other survivors are brother Tracy (Joan) Doane , nephew Steve (Cher) Gfeller, and lifelong friend Shirley Perdaris. Betsy had a long career writing advertising copy, public relations material and programming for local television and radio stations. She also worked for the Quillen, Elsea and Hurley advertising agency and the Sedgwick County Department on Aging. Betsy was a founding member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, now known as Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. She served the church in many capacities, including as a member of the vestry, and was instrumental in producing the Lectionary published by St. Mark’s Press. She was a tireless volunteer and gave willingly of her time, talents and energy to the American Red Cross, Episcopal Social Services’ Venture House, Wichita Radio Reading Service, the Silver-Haired Legislature and many other organizations. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 18, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 8021 W 21st St N, Wichita, KS 67205. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, the American Red Cross or Venture House.
