Bernard B. Welch, age 86, retired SMSgt United States Air Force, passed Tuesday, December 6, 2016. Bernard was born in 1930 to William and Velma Welch in Tulsa, OK. He was a graduate of Tulsa Central High School in 1948. Upon completion of high school he entered the US Navy for two years. After an honorable discharge from the Navy he entered his career military service for the US Air Force, retiring August 1, 1970. During those 22 years, he served as an engine/aircraft maintenance supervisor and instructor on the B52, B47, F105, F100 and various other aircraft. As a veteran Bernard proudly flew the American flag every day outside of his home. He worked seven years for Learjet performing preflight acceptance checks. After Learjet, he became self-employed as an automobile mechanic and engaged in several other business ventures. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Nolan Nelson Welch. Survivors include: wife of 64 years, Lois, of the home; children, Rosalyn Welch, Wichita, Bernie (Cathy) Welch, St. Petersburg, FL; sister-in-law, Carolyn Welch, Seattle, WA. Bernard had a large, loving extended family including 33 nieces and nephews; as well as sisters and brothers-in-laws, and many great nieces and nephews. Visitation with family present from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday; funeral service 2 p.m. Monday, all at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th Street N. (K96 & 13th Street). Bernard will be put to rest in Lakeview Cemetery with full military honors conducted by McConnell AFB. In lieu of flowers, memorial has been established with Alzheimer’s Association, Central and Western Kansas Chapter, 1820 E. Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67214.
