Graveside services will follow at Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of the Hampton Vaughn Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.
A loving daughter of the late John Joseph and Mildred Armantha (Tichenor) Donaldson of Morgantown, West Virginia; she was born on May 2 1934. Shirley lived in West Virginia until she married her first husband and moved to Ohio in 1955. In 1966 she married the love of her life, Austin Richmond, and moved to Florida for approximately five years. Back to Akron, Ohio, they went and lived happily together until Austin’s death in 2005. Shirley was employed as a waitress, factory laborer, housekeeper, and farmer. She was a fantastic homemaker. She always took great pride and loved being a wonderful cook and baker…always making sure everyone felt welcome and left the Richmond residence with full tummies from all her special goodies. She learned to make homemade bread and her famous “pepperoni rolls” from the family expert, “Mom Donaldson.” After Austin’s death, she moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, to live with her brother, Reverend Chuck Donaldson, and his wife, Jeannine…Shirley’s “Sis.” She became acclimated to Texas and rapidly was a vital part of the Texoma community. She helped Chuck and Jeannine with everything and loved being part of the Texas Donaldson household. She was no longer Aunt Shirley from Ohio, but took on a more active role in being the local Aunt Shirley to Chad and Todd, and really enjoyed her special new role as not Grandma, but Grandaunt Shirley to Chad and Kelli’s children.
Shirley enjoyed going on our long trips back to Ohio and West Virginia as often as possible…she loved seeing family and old friends. She fit right in helping with volunteer work in Wichita Falls through Thomas Fowler American Legion Auxiliary Unit #169 and the Wichita Gardens Neighborhood Watch. She loved traveling our great state going to Dallas/Ft Worth, El Paso, Tyler, Waco, Amarillo, Corpus Christi and especially Austin. She always said it was quite an honor for Texas to name its capitol after her deceased husband, Austin.
She is preceded in death by her father, John Joseph Donaldson; her mother, Mildred Armantha (Tichenor) Donaldson, of Morgantown, West Virginia; and her husband, Austin Richmond, of Akron, Ohio. She is also preceded by her infant sister, Alberta Donaldson; and nine brothers, Raymond Donaldson, William Donaldson, Richard Donaldson, Jack Donaldson, Leonard Donaldson, Forrest Donaldson, Tom Donaldson, Donald Donaldson and Chuck Donaldson. She is survived by her loving brother Gene Donaldson of Morgantown, West Virginia, and his wife Charlotte; her “Sis,” Jeannine Donaldson of Wichita Falls, Texas; and her wonderful brother-in-law, Jake Richmond, and his wife Jenny, of Akron, Ohio. She is also survived by nephews Chad and Todd Donaldson of Wichita Falls, Texas; Ronnie and Joey Donaldson of Morgantown, West Virginia, and many other nieces and nephews scattered between Texas, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York. A special thank you goes out to her many friends and extended family at the Windmill Rehabilitation Center and Texoma Christian Care Center. Thank you for everything. Shirley is truly loved and will be missed by many.
Everyone is invited to attend Shirley’s memorial service followed by graveside service and internment.
