Marvin Owens was born in the late 40s in September in Iowa to Carl and Dorothy Owens. Marvin’s childhood was spent on the farm, and he graduated from high school in Oklahoma. After graduation, Marvin joined the United States Air Force, where he served for over 20 years. During his service, Marvin served as a Victor Alert F4 Phantom fighter jet crew chief, which means he followed his plane around the world.
Marvin started his Air Force career at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. He then served at McConnel AFB in Wichita, Kansas, and then Marvin was transferred to Takhli Royal Thai AFB in Thailand, where he served in the Vietnam War. Marvin said that although he grew up in church, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior in a foxhole in Vietnam. After Vietnam, Marvin arrived at Laredo AFB, Texas, in 1970. He also served at Williams AFB and overseas in England. After England, he returned to Homestead AFB in Miami, FL, and retired at Reese AFB in Lubbock, TX. During his tenure, Marvin traveled to every non-communist country in Europe before NATO existed. Marvin retired from the US Air Force in the late 80’s. After the Air Force, he continued to work as a jet mechanic for Lockheed Martin and Leir Seigler before he retired again in late 2010.
Marvin married Brenda Watham in Oklahoma in January 1971. Together, they traveled the world serving in the US Air Force.
Marvin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and Pansy, his parents, his oldest brother, Ernest, and nieces Marshall and Robyn, and nephew Tatum.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda, and brother, Arnold.
Marvin and Brenda had 5 children – Kimberly and her husband Dewayne, David and his wife Kalee, and Angela. From that point, their family has grown to include 7 grandchildren and their spouses – (Wesley and Rachel, Christina and Shelbie, Garrett and Megan, Andrew and Shelbie, Abigail, Brett, and Sean) and 6 great-grandchildren (Riley, Natalie, Lillie, Beau Rhett, and Crew) with number 7 (Desmond) due any day, and 5 nieces and nephews.
