Kathryn Hayes

She was born to Kathryn and Clair Cressley in Goose Creek, TX in 1934. She was an only child and grew up in the Humble Oil Community which is now Baytown, TX. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. Kay then attended University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston where she graduated with a degree in Medical Record Administration. After graduation she headed the medical records department at Wharton, TX Hospital, St. Lukes and Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston and then she later went on to do consulting in medical records to several rural hospitals in North Texas. She retired from Director of Medical Records at North Texas State Hospital in Wichita Falls, TX. After retiring she taught Medical Terminology at Vernon College.

Kay married the love of her life, Craig Hayes in 1963. They raised three children, Alison, Steve, and Leigh Ann. She wore many hats as the children grew, Homeroom Mother, PTA member, Blue Bird and Campfire Girl leader and was a member of the Altrusa Club at her Church. Kay and Craig loved their children and supported them in all endeavors.

She was a loving, caring, and intelligent woman with a wicked sense of humor. She enjoyed poetry and reading and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and friends. Kay was a woman of integrity and loved by many.

Kay is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Craig. She leaves behind her Children, Alison Hayes, Steven Hayes (Taryn) and Leigh Ann Hayes (Stacy). Her grandchildren Weston Overstreet (Alexis), Skylar Hayes, Lunden Hayes (Samantha “Sam”), Gage Hayes, Taylor Park, Tye Hayes, Seth Carter (Stephanie), Samantha “Sam” Britten (Nate),Bryne Carter, Adeline Carter, a great granddaughter, Izzy, and great grandson Tommy, and her grand dog, Daisy.

Services will be held at 2 PM in the Mausoleum Chapel at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Memorial Park under direction of Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home.
