Johnny was born March 9, 1939 in Wichita Falls, Texas, son of Bill and Dora Rhodes. He was married to Ida Mae McCann in 1974 and celebrated 25 years of marriage before her death.
Johnny served his country proudly as a member of the 2nd Armored Tank Division, otherwise known as “Hell on Wheels.” He was a well-respected Contract Framer for 38 years, constructing many beautiful homes in Wichita Falls and in the North Texas area. His workmanship was unsurpassed in the home building industry.
He was also an avid fisherman, spending many days at his cabin on Lake Cooper or at any “available” fishing hole. Although late in life, he acquired a strong love as well as talent for playing golf. He looked forward to his weekly game with his two brothers, as did they. Their day of golf included laughter as much as hitting that little white ball. He loved watching movies and was known for picking the good ones, becoming the family movie critic.
His love for the Lord and his family was no secret to those who knew Johnny. His family is comforted in knowing that he is with his Heavenly Father.
Johnny is survived by brothers Don Rhodes and wife Judy, and Jerry Rhodes and wife Karen, of Wichita Falls; and sisters Joan Rushing and husband Tommy of Randlett, Oklahoma; and Peggy Gales and husband Delbert of Iowa Park; and numerous dearly loved nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed by his fur babies, Mattie, B.J. and Shadow. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Mae, and his parents, Bill and Dora Rhodes; step-daughter, Sue Lebur and her son Michael and his much loved nephew, Bryan Gales.
