Daniel Royce Brown

Daniel Royce Brown, 83, of Wichita Falls passed away on Monday, October 1, 2012 at his home at Royal Estates. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, from 5-7pm at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 10:00 am at Crestview Memorial Park in the Garden Of The Cross with Howard Chapman, Pastoral Care Minister of First Baptist Church officiating.

Mr. Brown was born October 17, 1928 in Wichita Falls to Emma Margaret (Martin) and Joseph Edward Brown. He was a 1946 graduate of Wichita Falls Senior High School. He married Dorothy May Chastain on June 25, 1949 in Wichita Falls. He began his work career in the automotive parts business at Paulk’s Busy Corner and later worked for Firestone, Borden Morris Engine Works, then retired from Mark’s Automotive Industrial Warehouse in Oklahoma City, OK. He became a Christian in 1964 while attending Sunnyside Baptist Church. In 1970, he became a member of First Baptist Church and for over 40 years, he eagerly served in the Children and Preschool areas, was a member of the Sanctuary and Glory choirs, and was one of the most enjoyable greeters for all the worship services. He participated in numerous church building trips to the northwest over the years and enjoyed helping bring children to Vacation Bible School on the church bus for many years. He loved to serve others and would jump at the chance to help anyone in any way. Dan delivered Meals on Wheels for several years. He also enjoyed woodworking and along with his wife, they would attend craft shows in various towns to sell the creations she and he had made together. They drove many miles camping in their RV with friends & family all across the country with some of their favorite trips being those to the lake with grandchildren and Christmas skiing trips with all their children and grandchildren.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy in 1998, 1 sister Wilma Litteken, and 6 brothers Joe, Bill, Clinton, Jim, Paul, & Bobby Brown. Surviving him are his 3 daughters and their families: Danna Ferguson, Karen Anderson & husband Jimmy, all of Wichita Falls, and Joni Schmitt & husband Dave of Lakeside City; grandchildren: Amber Reed & husband David, Jodi Camp & husband Brian, & Toby Beason, all of Wichita Falls, Daniel Estrada & wife Carey of Dallas, Laura Zamora & husband Dustin of Wylie, TX, Joanna Schmitt of Long Beach, CA; great grandchildren: Hayden & Parker Reed, Katelyn & Caroline Camp, all of Wichita Falls, Evangeline & Caydia Estrada of Dallas, Garrett & Emily May Zamora (Julia May Zamora due in January 2013) of Wylie, TX; brother Ronnie and sister Delores Henderson & husband Ray, all of Arlington, TX and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Preschool/Children’s Ministry of First Baptist Church, 1200 Ninth St., Wichita Falls, TX 76301; or to Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Rd., Wichita Falls, TX 76310.
