Albina Hajek Orsak Michna, age 109 years, 5 months, and 3 days, of Seymour, passed away Friday, May 19, 2017. Albina was the first of five children born to Edmund and Mary Masar Hajek arriving on December 16, 1907. She was born at their Lively Community home just four miles east of Seymour.
The Hajeks moved in 1914 to their future lifelong residence 3 ½ miles southwest of Seymour. Albina attended the Cache Creek School a mere one mile walk from her home. She recalled riding her horse to school only to have boys hide under the creek’s wooden bridge attempting to scare her horse. Albina was soon followed by siblings, Edith, Joe, Mary and Jesse. Albina had related the story of riding her horse named “Pony” to the Seymour High School and having to convince her horse to walk across the original wooden bridge crossing the Brazos River. The river was much wider then and the horse hated walking across the wooden slats.
The Hajeks enjoyed their social activities with SPJST Lodge 73. During one of the many dances, Albina met Joe Orsak. A few years later Albina and Joe married in Wichita Falls in 1927.
Joe and Albina purchased approximately 140 acres just northwest of Seymour in 1927. The first years were bountiful as their first child Eugene was born March 1, 1929. Then the dust bowl era with severe dry conditions enveloped Baylor County. The dust was so severe that Albina remembered draping multiple bed sheets over the dining table under which the family would sleep. Prosperity returned with the birth of their second son Eddie Joe on February 10, 1940. A growing and happy family was hit with devastation when Joe contracted pneumonia in late November 1940 and passed away on December 2nd.
In the years to follow, Albina worked in various department stores in Wichita Falls when she met Louis Michna and married in 1948. They operated a family owned grocery store for many years in Wichita Falls. Louis passed away suddenly in 1956. Albina continued to live in Wichita Falls eventually selling the grocery store and retiring. Health issues and being closer to her son Eddie Joe were the main reasons for her moving to Seymour in 2001. She was a resident at the Community Care Center for over 16 years.
Albina is survived by son Eddie Joe and wife Alice of Seymour, grandchildren Tim and wife Tracy of Seymour, Chris and wife Chelsi of Bomarton, Ramon Blevins of Northhighlands, CA, Larry Blevins of Roseville, CA and Joanie Gargus of Roseville CA; grandchildren Taylor, Blaine, and Emiley Orsak of Seymour, Jake Orsak of Bomarton, Kristopher Gargus, Melanie Bell, Rebecca Duke and Ryan Blevins of California; great grandchildren, Fisher Bell, Jessa Bell, Waylon Duke, Cade Blevins, Raeya Blevins and Jax Blevins of California. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Joe Orsak and Louis Michna; siblings Edith Michalik, Joe Hajek, Mary Coufal and Jess Hajek; son Eugene and wife Frances and grandson Benjamin Orsak.
Graveside service will be 3:00 Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Crestview Memorial Park with Deacon Jim Novak officiating. A visitation will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home.
