It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Kenyon Meck, of Whiting, NJ on Saturday, November 30, 2024. Ken was born on June 7, 1938, in Lewistown, PA to Lewis and Viola (Graham) Meck. After graduating from Chief Logan High School in 1956 and later from Bethlehem Business College, Ken proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964. Prior to his retirement in 2003, he held many titles. Ken served in management for Rite Aid, G.C. Murphy, and Trenton Tobacco to name a few. The title of which he was most proud was co-owner of Irwin Tobacco & Candy Company from 1981 – 2003.
What Ken enjoyed most was meaningful, fun times shared with a family whom he adored. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed seeing everyone laugh. If you were on the receiving end of his sarcasm, you knew he loved you dearly. Ken celebrated every holiday either by gift giving or sending a card in an envelope covered with stickers. We are thankful for the time we shared with Ken and will cherish our memories forever. He had a heart of gold and will be missed beyond words.
Ken is survived by three children, Kurt and Leigh Meck, Jodi and Harry Chevalier, and Kevin and Bansari Meck. He married Adelaide (Sis) Gater on October 6, 1979. Ken lovingly welcomed Sis’ five children as his own, Jane Gater-Hubert, Joan Gater-Lorenzo, Nan and Angelo Garubo, Greg Gater, and Chris and Dee Gater. Ken and Sis share 17 grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren. He is also survived by his former wife, Eileen Freid.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, from 3pm-5pm. A Memorial Service will begin at 5pm. All services will be held at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home 115 Lacey Road, Whiting, NJ 08759.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the American Cancer Society at www.donate.cancer.org, a gesture that exemplifies Ken’s spirit of giving.
