It is with great sadness that we announce the spirit of Vincent Thomas Alcorn, 28, was released from his earthly body on September 17, 2023, at home, surrounded by loved ones. Vincent was born on February 28, 1995, in Pontiac, Michigan.
Vincent attended Waterford and Huron Valley schools and graduated from Lakeland High School in 2013. As a member of the band family, he was a percussionist for the concert band and played the bass drum five in the marching band. He left a legacy during his time in drum line as the bass drum section leader, where a piece referred to as “Vince Beats” is still played today.
Vincent was a member of The Order of the Arrow, Boy Scouts of America’s honor society within Troop 42. He achieved his Eagle rank in 2013 after completing his service project for the Highland Township Public Library, a special place to him.
During his life, Vincent had many hobbies and interests such as reading, gaming, and conservation. Looking at his employment history, each position he held shines a light on a different aspect of his character. He worked and supervised at Barnes and Noble College Bookstores, he was an instructor through Chess Wizards extracurricular program and inspired critical thinking and strategy in students, and worked at Progressive Dock Service in marine construction.
Vincent was diagnosed in March 2020 at the age of 25, undefeated by a rare and aggressive sarcoma, Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumors (DSRCT). He endured every moment of his treatment and willingly offered his case as an opportunity for research in the field of oncology. He always advocated for our environment and cared for all living things. He passionately believed our world could be improved if everyone simply dedicated themselves to a little bit of common good.
Vincent is survived by his mother, Mary Jane Rock Alcorn, sister Victoria Maye Alcorn (Howard N. LaFreniere); brother Shawn Alexander Kovach (Bethany Diane, Zachary Tyler, Makayla May, and Shawn Alexander II); and paternal “Granny”, Virginia Mae Haggarman. He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Lee Alcorn; sister, Gena Renee Alcorn; and Grandparents, Victor Charles Ivan Rock, May Ruth (Holey) Rock, and Richard Edward Alcorn.
Vincent will be loved and remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and his dear friends Jacob Barckholtz, Zachary Mittison, and countless others.
