Born in Traverse City, Michigan, Michael was the beloved son of James and Mary Fletcher.
Michael graduated with a bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University and went on to earn a master's degree from Oakland University. His passion for education led him to dedicate 28 years as a special education teacher, beginning his career with Pontiac Public Schools, followed by Huron Valley Public Schools, and most recently with Detroit Public Schools. Throughout his career, he was a tireless advocate for his students, helping them secure meaningful employment opportunities and guiding them toward success. He also shared his love for sports as a golf instructor and a driver’s education instructor, instilling confidence in his students behind the wheel.
Music was a vital part of Michael's life; he had a particular fondness for artists like Jimmy Buffett and the Dave Matthews Band. A talented musician, he played both acoustic and electric guitar, as well as drums, and was a member of a band during his younger years.
Michael's adventurous spirit drew him to the ocean, with fond memories of travels to the Florida Keys and the Carolinas. He cherished time spent camping and being in nature, as well as hunting with his father, a tradition he held dear.
Above all, Michael’s greatest pride and joy were his four children, whom he treasured and prioritized above all else. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a profound impact on the lives he touched.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children Savannah, Jackson, Caroline, and McKinley; siblings Paul (Jackie) Fletcher, Anthony Fletcher, and Maria Fletcher; as well as 5 nephews, 2 nieces, and countless friends.
