Matilde was raised in Córdoba and graduated high school in 1944 with a teaching degree. She worked at her father’s medical clinic’s radiology department. She then attended the National University of Córdoba completing three years towards her English degree. Matilde met Alfredo Fleurquin when he was a student of her father’s at his clinic. He became “the love of my life” and they married in 1956. Shortly after, they came to the United States so he could hone his skills as a doctor. They eventually became United States citizens and settled in Michigan.
Her love of language and art was a passion that she passed on while raising her two children and she attended and received her Art History degree from Oakland University in 1979. She enjoyed traveling the world along with many trips back to visit family. She also enjoyed hosting parties for their many friends, especially those from Argentina. Matilde enjoyed 56 years of marriage before the passing of her beloved husband in 2012. Her signature phrase “it’s alright”, garnered from her grandson, is now true for her.
