William Warren Wilson of Northglenn, Colorado passed peacefully in his sleep on September 18, 2022. Born on March 22, 1932, he lived his early life in Denver, then moved to Gunnison, Colorado with his sister Mary, mother Ruth and father Elbridge.
Bill loved Gunnison and fancied himself a bit of a cowboy. He finished high school in 1950 and enlisted in 1951 in the Navy, but was transferred to the Marines to serve as a combat medic in the Korean war. Shortly after returning to the States, he met “the love of his life” Marilyn, an Iowa farm girl studying nursing at CU. They married in 1956 and raised five children in Northglenn, Colorado.
Bill was a successful civil engineer and spent the bulk of his career at Matrix Engineers, a firm he started with his partner “Bob T”. Bill was quite active in politics and civic life and became a skilled woodworker. He claimed retirement when he and Marilyn moved to the western slope in 2004, but continued with several engineering projects, including oversight on a new road leading to the Colorado National Monument.
He is preceded in death by wife Marilyn, daughter Sheryl, son Tim, granddaughter Laralyn Yee, brother Hoyt Woodford, sister Mary and parents Ruth and Al. Continuing to love and cherish them all are his daughters Rosilyn (William Maynard), Valerie, Jennifer (Jeff Stites), grandchildren Erick Sprague, Micheal Walker, Elena Stites, Ben Stites, great-grandchildren William, Wyatt and Cecilia Sprague, and nieces Carey, Karen, and Lynda.
