Nick Saylor, a man who has climbed wondrous peaks, conquered life’s challenges, and loved with the heart of a lion, now dances in the life hereafter. He was lost to an accident on February 5, 2018, but defined by a purpose-filled life of love. He is desperately missed.
Our Nick was born Patrick Nicholas Saylor, July 13, 1987, in Denver, Colorado to life-giving parents, James and Alison Saylor. Nick grew up in Lakewood and attended Wheat Ridge High School, Colorado State University, and Western Governors University. These formative years gave birth to the man who would become passionate for the outdoors and for the people with whom he walked in this life.
Nick married the love of his life, Mary Jackson and was a devoted stepfather to her son, Miles. They recently moved to North Bend, Washington in the foothills of the Cascades, an outdoor lovers paradise, second only to their “always home” of Colorado. Nick and Mary had plans to live out their lives on a plot of land in the Colorado mountains with horses, dogs, cats, and really awesome goats.
Many remember Nick for his gentle presence, wide smile, and profound compassion. He was deeply kind, dedicated and loving. Nick was at peace in the mountains and spent many joyful days skiing, climbing, running, and hiking from the Rocky Mountains to the Himalaya. His love for outdoor adventure was only surpassed by his love for Mary and Miles.
Nick was a driven businessman and passionate about the outdoor recreation industry. He spent many years at Bent Gate Mountaineering in Golden, Colorado before joining Recreation Equipment Inc. in Seattle, Washington as a merchant.
Throughout his life, Nick always stopped to remember the precious simple moments of life, from cuddling with his cat Hobbes to sunset walks on his favorite trails. Nick loved carving wood, collecting antique tools, and leatherwork. He had a passion for traveling and experiencing the world. His spirit was free in the mountains.
To Nick, we say, your spirit is carried within the hearts of those who you have loved. The kindness you have given, the love you have shared, the smiles you leave within our souls, changed our lives. We love you more than words can express. May the force be with you.
