Maureen Elaine Brees

Our loving, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Friend Maureen Dahl Brees was called home On June 17, 2019, to play a game of cards and reminisce about the ‘good ole’ days’ with her parents Melvin and Luella Dahl, brother Robert “Bob” Dahl, sister Donna Griffon, daughter-in laws Cindy and Lynda Brees, and great-granddaughter Catie May Rose.

Maureen was born on October 26th, 1934 in Denver, Colorado. She grew up on Genesee Mountain with her parents, brother Bob, and sister Donna. They raised grey, pearl, silver, and glacier blue foxes and worked hard as a family to build one of the most reputable fox farms in the Western United States. She loved to ride horses with her sister through the mountains and fields around their home. Maureen Graduated from Golden High School in 1952.

Maureen married Theodore Brees on February 28th, 1954. They later divorced, but not before they built their beautiful family and life together with their three children David, Gary, and Lisa. That was only the beginning of her loving devotion to her family which now includes many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Maureen worked at National Jewish Hospital for 15 years. She loved her job and was just as devoted to her job as she was her family and life.

Maureen loved spending quality time with her family and friends. She always made sure you had a place to stay in her home and you never left without a "bite to eat". She loved reading, playing cards, painting, drawing, crocheting, playing high stakes nickel slots, and going to Birthday Club with her daughter and her many friends; including her lifelong friend of 56 years Jan Moore. Her children and grandchildren remember many camping trips (the more adventurous 'one' being tied to trees, so she wouldn’t drown), visiting family, and many hours of playing miniature golf, games, going to the zoo and butterfly museum, and chasing bunnies.

She leaves behind her sons David Brees and Gary Brees; daughter Lisa Rose, 8 grandchildren, 22 Great grandchildren, her sister-in-law Detta Dahl, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Although a piece of all of our hearts went to heaven with her, we know how happy she was to be reunited with her parents, siblings, and great granddaughter.

To our beloved Mom and Grandma, we love you more than all of the stars in the sky.
