Marjorie worked as a telephone operator at Mountain Bell when it was a switch board, and people had party lines. Her cousin Jimmy called her on the switch board one night to see if she wanted to go dancing with him and Tommy Schroeder – The rest is history, Tom and Marjorie married on January 8, 1949, and spent 67 wonderful years hand in hand in life, on the dance floor, boating, fishing and exploring the country. They set an example of what True Love and Family First really mean.
Tom and Marjorie moved to Denver in 1963. Marjorie was first and foremost a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and home maker. She did in-home jobs to help support the family such as babysitting, took in ironing and sold women’s lingerie. Her homemaking skills were unparalleled, she made the best cinnamon rolls, Swedish pancakes and once a year a fabulous German Chocolate Cake for Tom’s birthday. We always had dinner together as a family, which for many years included Tom’s grandmother who lived with us. She sewed, knitted and crocheted some of the most beautiful treasures that we will always cherish.
Marjorie went back to work in 1978 at AT&T, very close to home, as an overseas operator. Marj and Tom retired together and spent the winters in Arizona making wonderful friends and had many good times. They moved to Houston in 2008 where the lower altitude improved Marjorie’s breathing. They enjoyed the flowers, friends and exploring a new part of the country.
After Tom’s passing Marjorie moved back to Colorado in 2017 and lived at Wind Crest. She felt very fortunate to be able to enjoy all that was offered there…she did drumming, story writing and made many friends including her dinner group, her Happy Hour 7 and her very special friend Dick.
Marjorie had a fierce determination to always recover from her many health events. She was incredibly kind, compassionate and positive. She set an example we could all learn from. She never had a bad thing to say about anyone and always found good in everything.
Marjorie lost her battle with health issues and passed away peacefully at home with her 4 daughters by her side.
