Marita was born in Wichita, KS, and moved to Colorado with her family in 1933. Graduated in 1947 from South High School, but not before she lettered in five sports. In 1948, she married Harold Bornschlegel at the South Denver Church of Christ and was happy to be a homemaker and mother of 5 children. As a long-time member of University Church of Christ, she served countless years as a Sunday-School teacher and a JOY-Bus captain. Other roles she assumed were: PTA President, Cub Scout Den Mother, real-estate entrepreneur and for ten years helped to run “The Bookazine” in downtown Denver. In 2000, she married Harley Dean McKay, a long-time family friend. She enjoyed many interests, such as golfing, cooking, sewing, gardening and traveling. Mostly, she loved to spend quality time with friends and her precious family.
Survived by husband, Harley Dean McKay, of Arvada, CO, five children and their spouses, daughter, Marty J. and James A. Stradley of Daytona Beach, FL, son, Hal D. and Julie A. Bornschlegel of Cedaredge, CO, son, Lee W. and Peggy L. Bornschlegel of Prescott, AZ, daughter, Janet K. and Thomas F. Marks of Westminster, CO, daughter, Bonny M. and Thomas A. Peterson of Kokomo, IN. She is survived by 15 grandchildren, Christopher R. Hall, David L. Hall, Sophie L. Stradley, Holly M. Richard, Amanda A. Bornschlegel, Leanne K. Bornschlegel, Jeanne F. Simon, Coleen B. Bornschlegel, Keri L. Stripling, Benjamin T. Marks, Stephanie K. Marks, Jessica K. Marks, Molly V. Peterson, Mindy V. Peterson and Jeremy T. Peterson. Also, her sister, Bonny J. Carter, of Castle Rock, CO, her sisters-in-law, Lucy B. Wright of Westminster, CO, Frances Bornschlegel, Panama, and Laverne C. Bornschlegel, Mountain View, CA. She is also survived by 23 grateful nephews and nieces and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold V. Bornschlegel, her father and mother, Cecil W. and Olive M. Forney, sisters, Patricia K. Forney and Barbara O. Paredes, brothers, Charles F. Forney and Jack L. Forney and her grandson Brice D. Bornschlegel.
