Lenore passed away in her home on January 1, 2023 at the age of 95. She had been under hospice care for 2 months struggling with a variety of issues brought on by her advanced age. Her family was by her side as she took her last breath.
She was born in her family home in Wiley, Colorado on August 4, 1927. Lenore always considered herself lucky to be alive since her mother had Typhoid Fever while pregnant with her. That is how she lived her life. Grateful to be alive.
Despite growing up during the Dustbowl and the Depression, she describes her childhood as carefree and fun. She had a brother and 3 sisters who helped support the family at their dad’s grocery store that he managed. Often, they were left to run it while their dad was sent overseas during WWI and WWII. Their mother took care of the books and the children would stock supplies and handle the register. They moved around from Wiley, Colorado to Taos, New Mexico and finally settled in Ordway, Colorado. She formed many lifelong friendships during these early years
She married at the young age of 17 to her high school sweetheart, Thomas B. Robertson on July 22, 1945, where they began farming and raising their 4 older children in Ordway, Colorado. They eventually moved to Denver where they had 2 more children and Tom started working at Public Service and Lenore stayed home and raised their 6 children. After Tom retired, they were able to travel extensively around the world and enjoyed new and old friendships, cuisines and sites. They were married 75 years.
She loved people, she was a loyal wife, the best friend, the favorite neighbor, the loving aunt and to her children, the best of moms. She was the person everyone could count on for help. She loved laughter, parties and family gatherings. For a creative outlet she made and collected dolls and had an extensive collection in her home. An accomplished seamstress, she made some of her own clothes along with those of her children and many a bridesmaid dress.
Lenore loved sitting under a shade tree in her glider listening to her music and reading a good book. Paradise for her was the scent of roses, honeysuckle and lilacs carried on the summer breeze. She was a friend of the fae and brought magic to the out doors for the children that came her way.
She was active in the church and was one of the first members of Brentwood United Methodist. She cared deeply for her church family and found strength in her faith. Memorial donations can be made directly to Brentwood United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by: Parents: Roy and Josephine Maxson, Brother: Harold Maxson, Sisters: Florence Rice, Jessie Johnson and Velma Crawford, Husband: Thomas Robertson and Daughter: Leora Armstrong.
She is survived by her children, Tom (Marilyn) Robertson, Vickie (Mel) Clark, Jim (Martha) Robertson, Karen (Raul Chavez) Robertson, Ken (Pam) Robertson, fourteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.
