Larry was born July 31, 1947, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. His parents purchased the family homestead and they moved to LaGrange, Wyoming where they raised wheat and quarter horses (Heart T Quarter Horses). Larry graduated from Hawk Springs High School in 1964 and attended the University of Wyoming for a short stint. He enlisted in the Navy in 1966 during the Vietnam War and served as a Radarman. During the Vietnam cruises he was an Air Traffic Controller, guiding missions over North Vietnam. After his service to his country, he continued his education and received his degree from Red Rocks Community College. His one and only employer was Coors Brewing Company until he retired at age 52.
After his retirement, he started his own business Beverage Systems Consultants, a draught beer installation company. He was then hired as a consultant for Bio-Q-Tech and ended up running the company on a full-time basis. During that time, he was still in contact with his friends from Coors and worked with them on a day-to-day basis. He fully retired when he reached the age of 70 years old.
LG loved his Denver sports teams, NASCAR and attended many races. He loved the outdoors and had fun camping and boating, fishing, and hunting. He loved to play golf and has dozens and dozens of golf balls to prove it.
Larry is survived by his wife Kathleen, daughter Angela and her husband Brian O’Neill and daughter Christy Chockley. He is also survived by his five beloved grandchildren Blake and Trevor Miller; and Will, Jesse, and Lily Chockley. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother Jerry and his wife Marlene Smith and their three children and six grandchildren. Larry was preceded in death by his daughter Jackie, his parents Eugene Max Smith and Dorothy Jean Smith.
A celebration of LG’s life will be held directly after the service at “In The Zone”, 15600 West 44th Avenue, Golden, CO 80403. If you cannot attend the service, we would love to see you at the celebration of his life.
