T. Kevin Smyth of Arvada Colorado passed on September 16, 2022. Kevin was born in New Jersey to the late Jane (Rockafeller) Smyth and Thomas L. Smyth, Jr., DDS and grew up in Belmar, NJ. He had a rare blend of intellect, humor, passion and kindness. He knew about everything from the sciences and arts to cars, bicycling, woodworking, and skiing. And he always had an endless number of wonderfully entertaining stories on his many adventures including dancing the tango with his wife Linda (Masters) in Argentina.
Kevin had a contagious enthusiasm and commitment to each new endeavor and there were many. He eagerly shared these new discoveries with his friends so they could enjoy them as well.
Photography was his original passion and his recent years were dedicated to investing and woodworking. He was always designing and carving gifts for friends and anyone needing a little cheering up. He had a generous soul, always thinking of others and willing to give his time and resources to those in need.
Kevin loved dogs, especially his Norwegian Elkhounds, and was very active in AKC conformation and agility shows and clubs while living in New Jersey. In the first years of agility he ran the largest shows in the country with the proceeds dedicated to canine rescue and health research.
He loved to give children toys and gifts that would inspire them to learn, explore and be creative. Every gift was specially selected.
Kevin loved the house he and his loving wife built when moving to Colorado in 2014. He named it Casa de Cielo (House in the Sky). Frequently, Kevin could be found barbecuing, baking a homemade pizza, or creating a novel dish.
Always creative, adventurous and never resting, Kevin will go on the final trip he had dreamed of since a small boy. His ashes will go to space in 2023.
Kevin graduated from St. Rose Grammar and High School, Belmar, NJ and College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA. He attended the University of Missouri School of Journalism and continued to study and learn every day.
Kevin died after a protracted illness. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Linda; brothers Sean (Dina), Shrewsbury, NJ and Owen (Cathy), Harrisburg, PA; sisters Mary Eu (Joe) Murray, Montgomery, MD, Siobhan (Ree) Smyth, Neptune, NJ, Jeanette (Tony) Yannazzone, Belmar, NJ, and Jane (Rich) Smyth-Melsky, Little Silver, NJ; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Kevin’s life will take place in Colorado on December 3, 2022.
