He was born on August 24, 1943, in Greeley, Colorado. This caring and wonderful man has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed by his wife of 56 years, Beverly, and his children, Bethany (Joseph) Hartman, Kimberly (Todd) Unrein, and Kathryn (Matt) Scanlan. John’s family was pivotal in his life and he was a proud grandfather of Madalyn Unrein, Preston Unrein, Gabrielle Hartman, Alaina Scanlan, and Morgan Scanlan. John was also blessed with several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father and mother, Benjamin Addison Woodcock and Sarah Gertrude Woodcock, his brother, Burgett Woodcock, and his two sisters, Moyne Esbenson and Sarah Rosenoff.
John served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, and was honorably discharged in August 1972. He completed an electrical apprenticeship through the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Electrical Industry in November 1970. He worked for 40 years as a commercial electrician, IBEW 68, and during that time, helped build Denver International Airport and the Denver Broncos stadium.
In addition to his love for his family and his friends, John was a loyal fan of the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, Denver Nuggets, and CU Buffaloes. He was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life and a firm understanding of what was important—the simplicity of living a life with those you love.
A memorial service will be held at the Church Ranch Event Center, 10200 Wadsworth Boulevard (not Wadsworth Parkway), Westminster, CO, on Thursday, March 25, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. Attendees are invited to wear their Colorado team gear if they want. John would love that.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Care for Strays, 4655 Eldridge St., Golden, CO 80403.
