James R. Vogt II (Jim), of Idaho Springs, passed away on November 17, 2020. Jim was a devoted husband to his wife of 27 years, Stephanie (Sauer) Vogt, and a loving father to their son, Caden. Jim is also survived by his father, Ronald Vogt of Arvada; his sister, Renée (Scott) Corcoran of Ohio; and his brother, Danny (Amy) Vogt of Arvada. He also leaves behind a niece and two nephews who adored their fun Uncle Jim! He was preceded in death by his mother, Ann (Grace) Vogt.
A Colorado native, Jim was born on February 25, 1966 in Denver and moved around during his childhood, living in numerous cities around the state until settling in Arvada in 7th grade. In 1984, he graduated from Pomona High School and then attended Colorado State University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He became a police officer and went on to have a long and decorated career in law enforcement, rising to supervisory ranks and receiving numerous awards and honors. After leaving local law enforcement, Jim worked for the Department of Homeland Security and Disaster Preparedness. He also spent many hours volunteering for various organizations including the Colorado Special Olympics and the American Red Cross. He was active in his local community as a youth soccer coach for his son’s team as well as serving as a Cub Scout Den leader.
Jim and his wife loved the mountains so they made it their home, building a beautiful log home high in the Rockies with very little “professional” help. Maintaining their home was a labor of love and Jim spent much of his spare time caring for it.
He will always be remembered for his zest for life, outgoing personality, generous spirit and bold clothing choices! Jim was the life of the party, never met a stranger and went out of his way to ensure everyone around him was having fun. He was a great cook and shared this gift by making elaborate and delicious meals for his loved ones. He loved to travel, go camping and had a passion for science, especially astronomy.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim’s name to the American Red Cross or the Special Olympics. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date when we can all gather safely.
