James R. “Dick” Gray, Jr. , age 91, passed away in his Lakewood home on February 2, 2024. Dick was born at Fort Bragg in North Carolina on October 19, 1932 to James and Ethel Gray. He had one older sister, Louise Wyant.
As a child, Dick moved to Colorado. He began working as a telephone equipment installer in 1953 for Western Electric. In 1972, Dick married Margaret Kemp and became step-father to her 4 children. They were married for 39 years until Margaret’s death in 2011. After working at Western Electric for 30 years, he retired in 1983. Dick and Margaret loved taking road trips. Whether it was Arizona, Wyoming, or Florida, they enjoyed seeing family and spending time with one another. Dick’s other passion was cars. One of his favorite places to be was in his garage working under the hood of a car.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ethel; his wife, Margaret; and by his sister, Louise. He is survived by his 4 step-children: Marcus (Paddy) Kemp of New York; Joel Kemp of Colorado; Glenn (Kim) Kemp of Utah; and Peggy (Tom) Rickard of Wyoming. He is also survived by 2 nieces, Joyce Aragoni and Sandy Gerk; 8 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
