Simply put, we hit the jackpot with our parents, which made it especially hard to lose Glenn Wright Fritts. He left us October 21, 2022, surrounded by family, and was preceded in death by the love of his life, Barbara Lloyd.
Glenn was raised on a farm near Butler, Missouri, then served in the U.S. Army during WWII prior to his move to Denver. After putting himself through the University of Denver, he had a lengthy career with the Colorado Department of Transportation. His tenure there as Planning and Research Engineer and later, Chief of Staff Construction, allowed him to be an integral part of the design and growth of many of Colorado’s highways, including the Eisenhower/Johnson Tunnels and the Glenwood Canyon redesign. Blending farm boy ingenuity with his engineering skills, Glenn created many life-saving features that are now part of our highway systems.
While he had many accomplishments, he lived for his family. Glenn and Barbara were inseparable during their 55 years of marriage, traveling the world, exploring ghost towns, and shaping lives through their love of nature and history.
A sweetheart to the end, Glenn was gracious and loving, and truly exemplified the Greatest Generation.
He is survived by his children and their spouses Karen (Bennett), Glenn Robert, Kathy (Brad), and Margaret/Lori (Guy), as well as ten grandchildren: Catie, Francesca, Jaime, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Lisa, Ryan, Sarah, Heather and Rebecca (Karen K.), and several exchange students who proudly call him grandpa.
We are grateful to both his caregivers and Gateway Hospice who provided compassionate support. Services and interment will be at Fort Logan Cemetery on December 30th at 11:00am. While flowers are welcome, please consider a donation to the Cat Care Society (https://catcaresociety.org/) or the American Legion (http://www.legion.org/).
