George was born in Taylor, PA to George and Dorothy Swerda, along with his sister Ann. He grew up with a devilish personality and loved driving fast with the hopes of becoming a race at driver. After high school, George worked for the U.S Postal Service, and joined the Naval Reserve.
In December of 1961, George began his career with the U.S. Park Police where he patrolled not only on foot, but also by horseback, motorcycle and cruiser. George had the pleasure of working in the K-9 unit as well. He retired in January 1984 and moved to Colorado to enjoy skiing and 4-wheeling in the Rockies. He worked for the Federal Protective Service from 1984 and retired 2000 where he made many life-long friends that he golfed with into retirement.
George spent a lot of time in retirement traveling around the world, but he always liked going to New Orleans and enjoying their beignets. George had a had a natural curiosity in life, an uncanny memory for trivia and music, and good sense of humor which he maintained through the end.
George is preceded in death by his parents in 1997 and 2001. He is survived by his sister Ann, and his wife Gloria. He is also survived by their five kids: Michael, of Temple Hills, MD; John and his wife Lori, of Brunswick, MD, and their kids, Casey and Lauren; Chris, of Littleton, CO; Steve, of Littleton, CO; and Terry and her husband Lee, of Littleton, CO.
Please join his family for Services on November 14th, 2015, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Golden, CO at 1 PM, with a reception to follow, also at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
SERVICES IN MARYLAND: Services will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 11:00 am at American Legion Post 248, 5600 Janice Ln., Temple Hills, MD 20748. George's family would like for you to join them for lunch after the Memorial Service, also at American Legion Post 248
