Galen passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 28, 2022. Remaining primarily independent and mobile, always in good spirits and never in need of anything; insisting all was good and he was doing well in the day’s prior to his passing, Galen succumbed to complications from aspiration.
Galen is survived by sister Gwen Quick in Greeley CO, son Gary (Jennifer) in Naples FL, and daughter Pam in Tucson AZ. He is preceded in death by wife Jane his constant companion of 61 years and who he lovingly took care of during her later years, parents Archibald and Nora, and brother in law Robert Quick.
As a graduate of the University of Denver and a Certified Public Accountant by profession, Galen excelled in hospitality accounting throughout Colorado and the neighboring states. He was actively involved with the Colorado Hotel Lodging Association and in 1994, was the first recipient of the annual Galen Drake Allied Member Award. Galen also served as a Board Member and Treasurer for the Denver Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Pursuing his passion for golf, upon retiring, Galen was a fixture at Rolling Hills Country Club. Teeing it up with his regular foursome several days a week, he was often heard uttering “c’mon Drake” after an errant shot. He also loved traveling with his clubs to Arizona and Florida to play with his family, frequently spending the holidays in each location. Galen actively enjoyed playing the game he loved well into his late 80’s. Most recently, he was seen at the course chipping and putting on all 18 holes for his 91st birthday.
Visitation will be July 7th at 9:45am, followed by a funeral and graveside service. A reception will follow at Rolling Hills Country Club.
