Douglas R. McCrimmon, Captain U.S. Navy (retired), passed away November 9, 2016 at the age of 84. Born March 24, 1932 in Julesburg, Colorado, Doug graduated from Fort Collins High School and attended Colorado State University for two years, where he joined Sigma Chi. He then won a Congressional appointment to the Naval Academy and graduated in 1955. Doug flew over 300 combat missions during the Vietnam conflict and commanded two ships, including the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Ranger during an illustrious 23-year career. Following retirement from the Navy Doug served as the General Manager of Johnson newspapers, for many years writing a regular column in the Evergreen Canyon Courier, “The View From Here”. He also held senior executive positions at Nexus Greenhouse Corporation and Officers Christian Fellowship. He served on the boards of several churches and nonprofits including Hands of the Carpenter. Doug is survived by his wife of 59 years Judy; sons Rob and James (Sheri), daughters Christy Scott and Carrie (Kevin) Kleckler; grandchildren: David Jones, Maggie (Jaron) Gallegos, Derek Scott, Jacqueline (Kris) Lasnik, Katy (Patrick) Shoenecker and Andrew, Jenna and Lewis Kleckler; great grandchild Mckinley Gallegos and brothers Don (Charlotte) McCrimmon and Dan (Teresa) McCrimmon. He was preceded in death by his grandson Ian McCrimmon and son-in-law Duncan Scott.
Memorial service will be Friday, November 18, 2016 at 11:00 am at Rockland Community Church. Internment at Ft. Logan National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mt. Evans Home Health Care and Hospice.
