Dona Jean Shumate, 91, of Bailey, Colorado passed away peacefully September 23, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 5, 1927 in Shallow Water, Kansas to Carrol and Violet McIntosh. She married William V. Shumate and had two beautiful daughters Sandra Jean and Karol Dee. During their marriage they shared many adventures, residing 2 years in Singapore & traveling extensively from Beijing, China to Tasmania, Australia and to Europe while he was employed by Boeing.
She excelled at anything she tried, especially managing all aspects of their home, raising their daughters, and supporting her husband’s career. She loved sewing, gardening, puzzles, painting, reading, and her humming birds. She was also a lifetime member of the VFW.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years William V. Shumate and her daughters Sandra Jean McIntosh and Karol Dee Fair, 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents Violet Neta McIntosh, Carrol DeCree McIntosh and granddaughter Sara Elizabeth Fair.
A graveside Memorial Service will occur on October 1, 2018 at 10:15 am at Ft. Logan National Cemetery. Following the services a Reception of Remembrance will be held at 398 S. Balsam St. in Lakewood, Colorado 80026.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Dumb Friends League.
