Carol Ann Soucie, age 91, of Arvada, Colorado passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. Carol was the youngest of 4 daughters born to Forrest Dilworth Conard and Dorothy Elizabeth Conard (Nowels) in Longmont, Colorado.
As a girl, Carol developed her "green thumb" and love of nature working with her family on their farm in Longmont - delivering fresh fruits and vegetables from Longmont to Estes Park and everywhere in between.
Carol graduated from Longmont High School in 1950 and attended Colorado A&M in Fort Collins (Aggies) to study music for a short time, before returning home to help when her mother became very ill.
In June of 1953 Carol married Albert Douglas Soucie (Doug), and together they had 6 children. They started their married life on Doug's family turkey farm in Longmont. Then off to Chateauroux, France Air Force Base where Doug was stationed. Four years later they returned to Colorado with young children in tow - so happy to be home.
Carol had a great appreciation of music, particularly hymns and church music. As an exceptional pianist and organist, she played for weddings, funerals, masses and celebrations throughout her life, all while raising her 6 children. Living in Arvada, she was the music coordinator at St. Joan of Arc, she gave piano lessons and instilled her love of music in everyone she met.
In 1976, as a single mom for years, Carol took the brave step of moving to Frisco, CO and buying the Mountain View Motel. She took no time getting to know her new community and was active in the Summit County Chamber of Commerce, the ladies auxiliary of the Summit County Elks Lodge and became a dear friend to many. She also became the accompanist for the Summit Choral Society and the organist at Our Lady of Peace in Silverthorne and St. Mary's in Breckenridge, as well as traveling to churches in Avon, Vail and Beaver Creek to play wherever she was needed.
When she sold the motel, she eventually moved back to Arvada where she was the office manager for Eberl's Claim Service.
Throughout her life, and especially during her 30 years of retirement, Carol thoroughly enjoyed laughing, telling jokes (even when she couldn't remember the punch line), hiking, reading, watching the news and the Bronco games on TV, playing cards and games - especially Scrabble, and always talking on the phone. She had a great curiosity and was constantly learning new words and history. She loved asking "Google" whatever questions came to mind.
Above all, Carol's children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, close relatives and friends were always the light and focus of her life.
Carol is predeceased by her parents, her sisters Jean Bennett and Lila Gay Morris, and her grandson Nathan Heggenberger. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Murphy, her 6 Children: Clayton Soucie, Theresa Boudreau, Grace Eberl and husband Kirk, David Soucie and wife Jill, Gayle Soucie Knorr and husband Bob, and Lynn Thomas, her 5 grandchildren: Jeremy Ritchey and wife Jamie, Cody Eberl and wife Krystal, Tyler Soucie, Christopher Knorr, and Lacey Eberl, her 3 great grandchildren: Brayden and Preston Ritchey and Ava Soucie, and many adored nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Carol will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 7777 West 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, Colorado 80033. A committal service will follow from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM. A reception with a celebration of her life will follow at Olinger Crown Hill Chapel of Peace from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
