Carl W. Nordin, 92, of Wheat Ridge, CO, died peacefully on December 20, 2023. He was born in Pierre, South Dakota, in April 1931. He was the middle child, and only son, born to Albin and Ethel Nordin. Carl grew up on a ranch north of Murdo, South Dakota, where he rode his horse to school and attended classes with his sisters in a one room schoolhouse. Carl continued his education in Brookings, South Dakota, where he attended the South Dakota State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts.
In the early 1950s, Carl moved to Colorado, and soon after, began his career working at the Rocky Flats Plant where he spent the majority of his career working in Research and Development until he retired in 1989. In addition to his professional career, Carl was very active in the community. He was a member of the Lion's Club International for more than 50 years; during his time as both an Arvada and Golden Lion, Carl served as Club President and District Governor. He also dedicated more than 30 years volunteering at the 9Health Fair. Carl was very active politically supporting candidates and campaigns, and in 1972 under President Nixon’s Presidential Campaign, Carl locally managed the region from Sheridan Blvd to the foothills. In the 1970s, Carl was named, and served as, Vice Chairman of the Key Gifts Division in the Lutheran Hospital and Medical Center Expansion Fund. He was a member of the Fremont School Citizens Committee, Legislative Chairman for the Parent Teacher Association, Treasurer of the Arvada Toastmasters, and a member of the American Contract Bridge League.
Carl is preceded in death by his wife Norma, infant son Robert, his parents Albin and Ethel, sisters Betty and Dolores (Dale) Iverson, and daughter-in-law Laura. He is survived by his sons Bill and Brad, daughter Rebecca, grandchildren Travis, Meg (Cassandra) Brodean, and Sarah, and great grandsons Joseph and Christopher.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, December 28th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 and his Funeral Service is Friday, December 29th at 3pm with a reception from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The Visitation, Funeral, and Reception will be held at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary and Cemetery, 7777 West 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
