Barb was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on September 29, 1937 to Dr. Charles Hurd and Mildred Brown. As a child, Barbara lived in various places, including Wichita Falls, Texas, where she graduated from Wichita Falls High School. Barbara attended the University of Colorado, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Foreign Language and a secondary teaching license. While attending college, Barbara was an active of the Zeta Tau Alpha fraternity. Post graduation, Barbara continued to actively support her sorority. She was instrumental in opening a chapter at Colorado State University.
Barb received her Masters of Arts degree in Education from the University of Northern Colorado. She taught various foreign languages in Jefferson County Public Schools for 24 years. During this time, she received several awards.
Barb married her college sweetheart, Calvin Johnson. The couple were married for 62 years. They resided in Wheat Ridge, where they raised their family.
Barb is survived by her son, Michael and daughter, Lynda, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A private interment was held; a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
