Bernie’s career spread over 60 years. He worked from Goose Bay, Labrador to Cape Breton then finally Digby County. It included everything from fishing, mechanics, construction, running his own business Supreme Paving Ltd., being Superintendent of the Dept. of Hwys, to finally logging the Sissiboo River and his saw mill.
Bernie’s past time was spent crafting things with his hands, including snow shoes, flies for fishing, weaving baskets, knives, wooden bowls, vases, candle holders and later in life dream catchers. His favorite past time was being in the woods, hunting and being at the camp with his lifelong hunting buddies.
The family wish to express their sincere gratitude to the owners/staff of the Foyer Celeste in Meteghan for the wonderful care he received in the short time he was there. He called them “Bernie’s Angels.” We cannot forget his special girls at the NSLC in Meteghan.
Bernie would not want us to cry for him. He would want us to raise a glass high, share stories, laugh and remember him as the man he used to be.
A visitation with light refreshments will be held at Jayne’s Funeral Home, Weymouth on May 13, 2023 from 11:30am-1pm with funeral service at 1pm, Father Raymond to officiate.
