Phyllis Iwilla (Craun) Kline

Phyllis Craun Kline, 92, a resident of Mt. Sidney, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. She was the last surviving member of her family and her husband’s family also.
She was born on August 15, 1930 in Harrisonburg and was the daughter of the late Charles Franklin and Sada O. Evers Craun.
Phyllis graduated from North River High School in 1948, and earned an Associate Degree in Business from Blue Ridge Community College.
She lived on the Kline Family farm from 1950-2007. She was an active member of the Lebanon Church of the Brethren, where she played the organ and also played for numerous funerals; she was part of the church choir for over 50 years and served as financial secretary. She was a member of the New Hope Chorus.
Phyllis volunteered with the Verona Food Pantry and later became a member of the Board of Directors. She was a cook at Fort Defiance High School and was promoted to Kitchen Manager; she retired after more than 20 years of service.
On October 3, 1948, she married Welty Eugene Kline who preceded her in death on September 21, 2008.
She is survived by a daughter, Dianne Cupp (Kenneth) of Mt. Sidney; a son, Charles “Gene” Kline (Kim) of Verona; grandchildren, Elizabeth Packer (Matt), Timothy Cupp (Lindsay), Laura Thompson (Jon), Samuel Cupp, Joseph Kline (Christine) and Sarah Byrd (Chris); great-grandchildren, Garrett, Rebecca and Emmett Packer; Tanner and Jack Thompson; Kade and Louie Kline; and Isabel Byrd.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Debbie Kline; sisters, Wilma Burtner, Wreatha Boyers and Frankie Craun; and brother, Merrill Craun.
The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Friday, May 12, 2023 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Weyers Cave.
A funeral service will be held 10 am, Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Lebanon Church of the Brethren with Rev. Wayne Pence officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
