1933~2016
Bennett, Wildred “Fred” Alexander age 82 years, passed away peacefully, Sunday, April 17, 2016 after a long battle with Cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Florence Bennett; his wife, Audrey Bennett; sister, Peggy McManus; daughter, Sandra Bennett; niece, Mary Lou Carry and Brad’s significant other, Karen McNeill. Fred was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on July 29, 1933. His family moved to Weyburn when he was young and he attended the Assiniboia School and eventually graduated from Weyburn Collegiate. As a young man Fred excelled at sports, particularly hockey, basketball and curling. After graduation Fred married Audrey Linley of Weyburn and they raised four children, Janice, Sandra, Rick and Brad. Early in his adult life Fred began working in the oil industry in a variety of capacities from seismic acquisition to oil filed production and operations. Fred retired from Encana in 1993. For several years after that Fred ran River Park for the City of Weyburn and was a great ambassador to campers passing through from all over Canada and the United States. In winter months Fred and Audrey would head to Calgary or Mexico to spend time with their children and grandchild, Alexander. Fred was devoted to his faith at All Saints Anglican Church in Weyburn.
Fred, Audrey and Sandra will be lovingly remembered by Richard Bennett (Lyne Claveau) of Calgary, AB; grandson, Alexander Bennett; Brad Bennett of Weyburn, SK; Janice Bennett of Calgary, AB; Fred’s brother-in-law, Wallace (Ronnie) McManus, nephews, David (Florence) McManus and Garth Carry as well as numerous other relatives and friends. A Celebration of their lives will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 1:00 pm from All Saints Anglican Church, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with the Venerable Wilma Woods and Reverend Brian Woods. Interment followed at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. A time of fellowship followed the interment. Donations in their memory may be made to Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan.
