Morrice, James Stewart, passed away peacefully with family by his side, at the age of 81 years, on January 24, 2015. James was born on April 25, 1933, just south of Goodwater, SK. He married Dorlane Morrice (nee Baird) in Weyburn, SK on November 4, 1955. At the time of their marriage, James and Dorlane lived on the family farm outside of Goodwater, SK. Together they moved to Weyburn, SK in 1987. They were married for 54 years. James was a successful farmer, cattleman and businessman. Farming was his passion. He had a very strong work ethic. He showed cattle in the Regina Agribition for many years. He enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and fishing trips up to Northern Saskatchewan. He made a trip out to the Calgary Stampede every year. James loved the rodeo! He was a diehard Ford and John Deere man. James was actively involved in the Goodwater Community, the Lomond 4-H Club, and the Weyburn Agricultural Society. You could always count on seeing James working in some capacity at the Weyburn Fair each year. Those who knew him will always remember him for his signature western shirt, jeans, belt buckle, and cowboy boots. James was a solid and dependable friend and neighbor. If a fellow farmer was sick, injured, falling behind, or needed help to put up a new quonset or grainery, the Morrice’s would show up with a combine, seeder, grain truck, or hammer. Whatever it took, they would be there.
A Memorial Service for James took place on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Grace United Church in Weyburn, SK with Rev. M. Barnabas officiating. Interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery in Weyburn, SK. Following interment, all in attendance were invited to join the family for a time of fellowship and remembrance in Grace United Church Upper Hall.
James will be lovingly remembered by his children, Fred (Cindy) Morrice of Goodwater, SK; Arliss Morrice of Calgary, AB; and James (Colleen) Morrice of Goodwater, SK; his grandchildren, Justin (Andrea) Morrice, Nathan (Jennifer) Morrice, Deana (Roy) Matheson, Candace (Jamie) Rich, Adam Wagner, Matthew and Madyson Morrice; his great grandchildren, Brandon, Brody, Logan, Hunter, Kaitlyn, Kallie, Taylor, and Makayla; his sisters, Mary Mack and Margaret Day; his brothers-in-law, Edward (Shirley) Baird and Stan (Carole) Baird; as well as many nieces and nephews.
