Don Wiberg went to be with the Lord Jesus on December 18, 2024. He had been a resident in different care homes in Moose Jaw over the past five years finalizing his journey in the Pioneer Lodge Care Home. He ultimately lost his battle with dementia and cancer and passed quietly into eternity. Don was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan on February 18, 1936, and was adopted by Rufus and Edna Wiberg of Talmage, Saskatchewan. As a child he attended the Wheaton School and later attended Caronport for his high school years.
It was while attending Caronport that he met Ann Armistead. They were married in Winnipeg December 22, 1956, where Don then worked for Canada Safeway and Kerr’s Funeral home. Don was part of a gospel quartet, the Gospelaires, and travelled to numerous destinations presenting the gospel message in song and spoken word under Grant Memorial Baptist Church of Winnipeg.
After moving the family to Shoal Lake, MB, Don worked for the government as a lab technician for the Health of Animals division of Ag Canada. A few years later he purchased a Texaco service station and spent several years serving the community as a self-taught mechanic and front-end specialist.
In the early 70’s Don split his time between Shoal Lake and Fillmore when he took over the family farm just south of Fillmore. After moving to the farm a year or so later, he continued farming for the better part of 35 years and was an integral part of the Fillmore and Weyburn communities. He attended Silver Heights Bible Church in Weyburn and was known for his song leading and singing. He kept busy as well with hockey, curling and many other community events. Don also enjoyed working part time for Fletcher Funeral Chapel in Weyburn. During these busy years, Don was blessed to have found his two biological brothers, Gary and Colin, and enjoyed reuniting with them.
Don loved to sing, and many folks were blessed when he sang in church, in care homes, at funerals and other occasions. During his stay in the care homes in Moose Jaw, the staff and residents all commented on how well and on how much they enjoyed it when “Donny sang”.
Don was predeceased by his parents, Rufus and Edna Wiberg; his biological brothers, Gary and Colin and his common law partner, Doreen Holyoak of Creelman, Saskatchewan.
He will be missed by his son, Del (Joanne) Wiberg; daughter, Brenda (Murray) Loewen; sister, Dorothy (Herb) Evans, and his 5 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren as well as many friends.
A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Don may be made to the Silver Heights Bible Church at 1610 Clark Avenue, Weyburn, Saskatchewan, S4H 3H1.
