Denny was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Alma (Van de Sype) Whalen.
Denny will be forever loved and missed by his son, Derek (Stacy) Whalen of Wasaga Beach, ON; daughter, Deborah (Jeremy) Whalen-Bard of Carp, ON and their children, Owen & Soraya; daughter, Annmarie Whalen of Weyburn, SK as well as other relatives and friends.
Denny was a life-long musician, making a start in his garage with his father and a bass guitar. As a teen he played at dances and weddings with The Orbits. He went on to join Lovin' Country, led by front man
Jerry Palmer. Lovin' Country played six nights a week at the Horseshoe Tavern in Thunder Bay for several years and backed up Caroll Baker on her first Canadian tour.
Denny was known for his music and enthusiasm for classic cars. He was always in a pickup truck, driving somewhere to visit a friend or a neighbor or chatting with just about anyone. He held his memories of life in Geraldton very fondly and reminisced about days of stock car racing in his purple oldsmobile, spending time with his family and friends, and playing music throughout the district.
Denny will be remembered as a vibrant talent in classic country and rock n' roll, a main-street cruiser in a classic hot rod, and a kind and loving man to his friends and family.
At the request of Denny and his family a service and interment will take place at Gordon and Alma’s gravesite in Pinegrove Cemetery of Geraldton, Ontario at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dennis may be made to the Weyburn Humane Society at PO Box 1062, Weyburn, SK S4H 2L3 or Thunder Bay & District Humane Society at 1535 Rosslyn RD, Thunder Bay, ON P7E 6W2
