Vincenzo “Jim” Falcetta, 83, of West Hartford, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday, October 20, 2024 and is now happily reunited with his beloved wife of 52 years, Margaret (Ridenhour) Falcetta, who predeceased him on the same day in 2021. Born in Brooklyn, NY on March 4, 1941, he was the son of the late Giacomo and Frances (Catanzaro) Falcetta. The family moved to the south end of Hartford in 1953, where Jim’s father’s “Falcetta Italian Bakery” was located on Franklin Ave, and where he worked alongside his parents and older brother Salvatore. Jim graduated from Bulkeley High School in Hartford, and received his Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Connecticut. He and Margaret married in 1969 and settled in West Hartford to raise their family. Jim joined the purchasing department of Pratt Whitney in 1966. In addition to purchasing components for jet engines, he also was named as a point person to represent the department on special projects. In 1979, he was appointed as Pratt’s Small, Minority and Women owned Liaison Officer-a position he maintained until he retired in 2006 to Asheville, NC, Margaret’s childhood home, to reconnect with her friends and extended family. They returned to West Hartford in 2019.
A loving father and grandfather, Jim will be forever missed by his son, Jason Falcetta and wife Paula of West Hartford; his daughter, Catherine Alberts and husband Ryan and his two adored grandchildren, Amelia and Reid, all of Huntington Beach, CA. He is also survived by his sister, Angela Atwater of Tolland; his sister-in-law, Barbara Mills of Rhode Island; his nephew, Mathew Atwater and partner Maggie Downie; two nieces, Cynthia Atwater and Francesca Morrell and fiancé Richard Cinque; his great-nephew, Joshua Atwater-Rec and great-niece, Samantha Morrell, as well as many extended family members and dear friends. In addition to his wife and parents, Jim was predeceased by his brother, Salvatore Falcetta; his sister and brother-in-law, Grace and David Enggas and his two brothers-in-law, Marshall Atwater and Bob Mills. The family would like to thank the compassionate staff of VITAS Hospice and especially Jim’s caregiver, Janifer Abraham, for taking such wonderful care of Jim.
