Sebastiana (Mangiafico) Raeli, 92, of Newington, wife of the late Emanuele Raeli, passed away in her home in Newington Saturday, April 29, 2023. Born on April 12, 1931 in Canicattini Bagni, Sicily, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Maria (Miceli) and Sebastiano Raeli. She came to America in 1975, living in Hartford for 27 years prior to moving to Newington. She was a loving and caring woman who took pride in her family. Her most favorite pastime was knitting and needlepoint. She enjoyed baking and being surrounded by her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Sebastiana is survived by three children; two sons, Sebastian Raeli of Wethersfield and Silvestro Raeli and his wife Nerina of Canicattini Bagni, Italy; a daughter, Lucia Bordonaro and her husband Salvatore of Rocky Hill; a brother Pasquale Mangiafico of Como, Italy; six grandchildren, Devin Raeli, Sebastiano Bordonaro and his wife Alyssa, Adelina Scata and her husband Salvatore, Anna Gugliotti and her husband Ariel, Emanuele Raeli and his wife Laura and Sabina Cianci and her husband Piero as well as 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Besides her parents and her husband of 64 years, Sebastiana was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Paolina; her sister, Francesca Mangiafico and a great granddaughter, Viviana Sofia who she loved dearly.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Sonia Fernandez, her full time aid of almost 3 years.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday (May 3rd) at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday (May 4th) at the St. James Church (St. Josephine Bakhita Parish) 767 Elm St., Rocky Hill. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Entombment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
