Richard Hartnett Dunn, age 87 of Wethersfield, loving husband of Frances Bell Formica Dunn, died peacefully on May 9, 2016. Dick, as known to his family and friends was born July 4, 1928 in Hartford, son of John K and Winifred Harnett Dunn. He was predeceased by brother, William Kent Dunn. Dick leaves his step children, Michael Formica and his husband Robert Hiemstra, Kathy (Formica) Harris, her husband Scott, and his adoring grandchildren Stephanie (Harris) Mangiafico, her husband Sebastian, and Marisa Harris. Dick attended Bulkeley High School and graduated from Cheshire Academy in 1947. He attended University of CT and Hillyer College. Dick was a loyal employee of Combustion Engineering, Waring Products and General Electric working in the engineering department. Dick’s passion was being a pilot. At Waring, he flew company personnel to various locations. Dick was also a flight instructor at Brainard Field for over 50 years, where he made many lifelong friends and always had a story to tell. Dick served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War. He was a devoted member of The Church of the Incarnation in Wethersfield, and St. Peter Catholic Church in Jupiter, FL. Dick will be dearly missed by his extended family, Joseph and Jean Bell, June Bordieri, Beverly Corraccio, Roy and Ruth Bell, Ellen Bell, Joseph and Donna Crossman and Andrea and Charles Mazzola, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by brothers in law, Patsy Corraccio, Jack Bordieri, and Richard Bell. A special heartfelt thank you is extended to the kind staff at Bel Air Manor who compassionately cared for Dick.
Funeral services will begin Friday at 9 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Burial with military honors will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
