Nicholas Jordan Dikegoros, 92, of Fort Lauderdale, FL and formerly of West Hartford and Wethersfield, CT, peacefully passed away at his home on Saturday, September 21, 2019. Nick was the loving husband of the late Penelope (Contos) Dikegoros. Born in Hartford on September 7, 1927, son of the late Jordan N. and Despina (Caratasios) Dikegoros, he grew up in Hartford and was a graduate of Bulkeley High School, Class of 1945. Nick was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy serving during and after the World War II era.
Nick resided in West Hartford for many years and worked with his father at the former Capitol Soda Shop on Asylum Street, Hartford. He opened Pizza Plus Restaurant on Washington Street, Hartford in 1970 where he would retire from 30 years later.
Nick was a long-time member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Hartford where he was a member of the Seniors Club, served as a President of AHEPA, and volunteered many years at the annual Greek Festival. Nick was a loyal fan of the New York Yankees and also loved to watch UCONN Men’s and Women’s basketball and the Boston Celtics.
Nick’s love for the ocean and sun brought him to spend winters in Fort Lauderdale until moving there permanently 5 years ago. Days at the pool talking with friends was what filled his time right up until his last days.
Nick was a hardworking man who was a devoted and caring husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.
Nick is survived by his son, Jordan N. Dikegoros and his wife Rita, of Wethersfield; his daughter Persefone Dolan and her husband Kevin, of Delaware; three cherished grandchildren, Nicole Dotterer and her husband Neal, of East Boston, MA, Lauren Dikegoros of South Boston, MA, and Michael Dikegoros of New York City, NY. He also leaves two sisters, Athena Karabots and her husband Nicholas of PA, Georgia Ambulous of Westbrook, brother-in-law Harry Kutskos of Pompano, FL, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. In addition to his wife and parents, Nick was predeceased by his sister Zaharoula (Lou) Kutsukos.
Nick had many caregivers that became part of the family; Merline, Malene, Audrey and Diane. Their compassion and dedication kept Nick a strong man and the family wishes to thank them for all that they did for Nick as well as the family.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 10 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 433 Fairfield Avenue, Hartford. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the cathedral on Saturday morning. Nick’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday September 27, 2019 from 4-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. A Trisagion Service will be celebrated at 6:30 pm on Friday evening at the funeral chapel.
